AIMS STORY
The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a pan-African network of Centres of Excellence dedicated to advancing postgraduate education, research, and innovation in the mathematical sciences. Founded in 2003, AIMS empowers Africa’s brightest students to become creative leaders and problem-solvers capable of driving the continent’s scientific, educational, and economic self-sufficiency.
With six centres across Africa—South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, Rwanda, and the Rwanda Research & Innovation Centre—AIMS offers Master’s and PhD programs in areas such as pure and applied mathematics, physics, computer science, climate science, data science, and AI.
Since inception, AIMS has trained more than 4,000 students from 45 African countries. Over 70% of alumni stay in Africa, and 35% of all graduates are women.
